Free Cross Stitch Alphabet Patterns
Our free cross stitch alphabet patterns are an elegant serif type font in a chunky bold design. These letters can be used with additional cross stitch alphabets for names and other personal designs.
Each cross stitch letter is thirty-four squares high enabling them to sit well one after the other. Their elegant, striking design means they look good just used without decoration, for example to make up a children’s name door plaque, however you can add various clipart to embellish if necessary.
The individual letters can also be used as a capital (leading) letters to make up words and sentences. By combining them with other cross stitch alphabets you can create word stings that sit closely together, becoming easy to read and allowing you to sew whole sentences.
The spacing between characters needs careful attention, however, because the distance is not always the same. The best way to tackle this is to sketch out the outline of your word on a blank grid, you can print one of our free cross stitch charts for this, and can tape together multiple charts for larger words and sentences. The overall word needs to ‘look right’ and when this is achieved roughly colour in the letters before beginning to sew.
These letters can be any colour, a particularly striking effect can be achieved by using a different bold colour for each character.
